Air Dropping Naked Photos On A Flight…The Latest Viral Trend

Airports have just been crazy lately. Thousands of cancelled flights.  More lost luggage than ever before.  For San Angolans, the lack of any real airline service out of our local airport and high prices force many of us to drive to San Antonio or Dallas for flights.

When my mom recently had a stroke in West Virginia, I left for Dallas ay 8pm in the dark from San Angelo, and I mean that trip is dark.  I had hastily arranged a flight through Orlando to Charleston, WV.  After making the exhausting drive, and after going through security at 3am, I was told my flight was cancelled and there would not be another flight available for three days.

All this tension has turned flying into a nightmare for many, who are already at the peak of stressed out by the time they're at the airport. I guess we can blame the latest weird viral trend on this fact.

It is becoming a trend that people on flights are using AirDrop to send naked photos, usually of themselves, to everyone nearby on a flight. AirDrop is a feature on Mac and iOS devices that allows people who are physically close, like on a plane, to share files wirelessly.

The latest incident is going viral, because TikTok user Teighlor Marsalis shared a viral video on social media of the moment a Southwest Airlines pilot threatened to turn a plane en route to Cabo San Lucas  around at the gate at Hobby Airport in Houston.  The reason: a lady was upset because some guy on her flight AirDropped her a photo of his privates.

The video below has been viewed 2.9 million times, has 144,000 likes and 1,700 comments and counting.  Let's just hope copycats don't go crazy on this trend.

According to Southwest  Airlines, who has been quite prolific in cancelling flights lately for a lot of crazy or made up reasons, issued a statement to NBC News about the incident.

“The safety, security and wellbeing of customers and employees is the Southwest team’s highest priority at all times. When made aware of a potential problem, our employees address issues to support the comfort of those traveling with us.”

This isn't the first incident Southwest Airlines has had to deal with like this.  Back in June, a male passenger got kicked off a flight to Denver because he Air Dropped a naked photo to several nearby devices.

If this is going to be a continuing problem, perhaps there should be something added to the boring instructions at the beginning of each flight somewhere between the "cushion can be used as a flotation device" monolog and the oxygen mask demonstration. I just hope they remember to pack the air sick bags.
