The Chenango County Historical Society was recently awarded a donation by the Stewart’s Holiday Match program totaling $750. Funds will go directly to support activities designed to share local history with children and families. In addition to hosting both virtual initiatives and in-person activities, the Chenango County Historical Society is collaborating with other community organizations to expand youth programming.  This gift ensures the development of child-friendly and family-focused programs in celebration of Chenango County’s unique cultural heritage.

Since the program’s inception, the Stewart’s Holiday Match has awarded nearly $32 million to a variety of organizations. In 2020, the program received roughly 1,700 applications requesting a total of $5 million in support, and was able to provide $1.88 million in aid, spread across a large array of organizations. All funds allocated by the Stewart’s Holiday Match go to support programs for children 18 and under in Stewart’s market area. Program funds are comprised of a 50-50 match by Stewart’s Shops to donations made by in-store customers.  There are two Stewart's Shops in Chenango County with locations in New Berlin and Sherburne, New York.

First established in 1939, the Chenango County Historical Society received an absolute charter in 1956. Ward School No. 2 was acquired in 1958 with renovations beginning immediately. Since reopening as a museum in 1962, the former school’s campus has been home of the Chenango County Historical Society for more than five decades. The primary organization dedicated to actively and comprehensively preserving the history of Chenango County, the Chenango County Historical Society celebrates local culture – unique traditions, noteworthy residents, and unusual stories.
