Many Americans start the New Year with a list of Resolutions. When it comes to converting those resolutions into lasting lifestyle change, however, more than a third never make it to February, according to the organizer of a local women’s health series.

“We often know what we should be doing, but translating that knowledge into healthy habits is where many of us fall short. Forming those healthy habits is key to changing our behavior – whether our goals are related to healthy eating, exercise or mental wellness,” explained Jamie Hagenbuch, community outreach coordinator at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital.

The timely topic will be the focus of the first installment of the hospital’s 2020 Women’s Health Series, a series of informed conversations held monthly at Bohemian Moon, 103 East Main Street in Norwich.

Physical Therapist Allison O’Neill of UHS Therapies Norwich and Registered Dietician Nicole Wake from UHS Chenango Memorial will present during the event, to be held Tuesday at the Norwich restaurant. The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with an optional $15 buffet and cash bar. The presentation and discussion will follow at 7 p.m.

Wake will focus on providing tools to implement behavior change, along with nutrition tips and tricks, while O’Neill will speak to the importance of weight bearing and resisted exercises.

“It is very important for women of all ages and ability levels to incorporate weight bearing exercises in their daily routine. This reduces fall risk, improves muscle mass, and improves bone density,” O’Neill explained.
