We're three weeks away from Valentine's Day, so if you need to make plans that include a dinner reservation, let me suggest you do that now before every place is booked up! However, if an overpriced dinner reservation is not in the budget for you and your loved one, here are a couple other cute Valentine's Day date ideas that are a little more wallet-friendly for you.

  • Take a food tour! Think about going to a few places and get an appetizer and drink at each place. Social on State, 205 Dry, Little Venice, etc. restaurants that will likely have some deals on Valentine's Day and you can just try a few different cuisines and save some money on sticking to appetizers instead of entrees. It could be fun!
  • Go ice skating! The SUNY Broome Ice Center is open most Friday evenings, so maybe have dinner in and then go out for some fun on the ice. For $20 you and your date could have a great time together for a couple of hours and if nothing else, the memories will be cute and funny if you're not quite the Brian Boitano you might pretend to be.
  • Stay in because who actually wants to go out and fight the crowds out on the holiday if you don't have to. Order take-out food, rent a movie, light some candles and get comfortable for a wonderful night in with your loved one.

However you spend Valentine's Day, whether with friends, a significant other, or your family, try to enjoy the day and don't put a lot of pressure on it. Keep it light and keep it fun because it's just one day of the year.
