A State of Emergency is in effect for the Bear Brook Road dam site in Hancock because of heavy rain at the old town reservoir. According to a declaration issued by Supervisor Jerry Vernold no unauthorized people should be near the dam site and those who live in this area should be aware of the conditions around them. The dam itself is said not to be in immediate danger of failure and authorities say residents will be notified if evacuations are necessary. Since the dam is located on private property a State of Emergency allows local officials to gain access to the property.
