It's summer. It's July. And it's time to celebrate our independence once again. The 4th of July is our great American holiday, and millions will be celebrating this weekend.

From family and friends get-togethers, cookouts, taking a long weekend getaway, or whatever your plans are, this is just a friendly reminder to be safe. Fireworks are a significant part of the 4th of July celebration, but be sure to be safe around them and follow the rules pertaining to the community you live in.

If you love fireworks, there are plenty of professional shows happening throughout the Southern Tier of New York and Northeast Pennsylvania that you can head out to enjoy, including the annual Town of Union July 4th extravaganza at Highland Park in Endwell and after the Binghamton Rumble Ponies baseball game at Mirabito Stadium in Binghamton, both on Friday, July 4th.

In Tioga County, Tioga Downs Casino Resort will feature a fireworks show at 9 p.m. after the races. In Candor, the fireworks show will be held on Thursday, July 3rd, at the McNeil Ballfield at dusk.

In Otsego County, the Hometown 4th of July fireworks will kick off just after dark in Neahwa Park in Oneonta. For a complete list of 4th of July celebrations and fireworks, visit the Macaroni Kid website.

Today, (July 2, 2025), City of Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham and firefighters from the Binghamton Fire Department are reminding city residents that unpermitted fireworks are illegal in the City of Binghamton.

I’m urging residents to refrain from setting off illegal fireworks in the City of Binghamton this holiday weekend. Illegal fireworks can cause serious injuries and destructive fires, putting community members and first responders at risk. They’re also a drain on public safety resources, generating calls for service at a time when our first responders are already busier than usual. Our community offers professional fireworks displays throughout the year, including this Fourth of July following the Rumble Ponies game at Mirabito Stadium. I encourage residents to enjoy one of those displays instead. - City of Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham

According to the announcement, the Mayor and Binghamton firefighters note that in recent years, the Binghamton Police Department’s Community Response Team has made illegal fireworks in neighborhoods a focus during holiday weeks. Binghamton Police will continue to enforce the City’s fireworks law over the 4th of July weekend.

Fireworks are dangerous when used by anyone other than permitted professionals. We’re asking residents to stay safe this holiday weekend and avoid putting others in harm’s way by refraining from illegal fireworks usage. - City of Binghamton Fire Chief Alan Gardiner

In the City of Binghamton, residents can report a non-emergency fireworks complaint to Binghamton dispatch at (607) 723-5321.
