Jordan Davis Just Had The Most Upstate New York Weekend Ever
The first light of the morning was probably just starting to spill across the fields of Upstate New York when country star Jordan Davis traded tour buses and stage lights for camouflage, muddy boots, and the sharp gobble of wild turkeys echoing through the woods.
And you know what? That sums up Upstate New York perfectly.
If you’ve ever spent time here during spring turkey season, you know it’s not just hunting. It’s cold air that stings your face before sunrise. It’s burnt gas station coffee warming your hands while the woods slowly wake up around you. It’s standing completely still while your buddy whispers, “Did you hear that?”
Apparently, Jordan Davis gets it, too.
Trading Spotlights for Sunrises: Jordan Davis in the Upstate Woods
Last week, Davis shared photos from a hunting trip at Basswood Lodge in St. Lawrence County, about two hours north of Syracuse. The country singer posed with friends after a successful turkey hunt during New York’s spring turkey season, which runs through May 31 across most of the state.
His Instagram caption was short and excited, basically the kind of thing you’d text your buddies after a really good morning outdoors. And weirdly, that might be exactly why people loved the photos so much.
For a guy who spends most of the year on stages in front of thousands of people, there’s something refreshing about seeing him standing in the middle of the woods looking like every other guy who got up way too early, hoping to hear a turkey gobble at sunrise.
Why Upstate New York Always Wins You Over
There’s a reason people from all over end up falling in love with this part of New York.
You know you’re really getting up north when local stores start selling hunting licenses, beef jerky, and homemade pie at the counter. The roads get quieter. Trees close in around the highway. Your phone loses service every few miles, and somehow nobody’s mad about it.
Then the sun starts coming up over a foggy field, and suddenly you remember why people keep coming back here year after year.
That’s the magic of Upstate New York. And apparently, even country stars need a break from the noise once in a while.
The Jordan Davis Song I Can’t Hear Without Laughing
Now listen, I genuinely love Jordan Davis. But every single time I hear his song “Turn This Truck Around,” I immediately think of parents on a family road trip hanging on by a thread.
You know the scene.
Kids arguing in the back seat. Somebody is crying because another sibling breathed too loudly. Snacks spilled everywhere. Dad is threatening to cancel the entire vacation somewhere around Syracuse.
Then comes the classic warning every kid has heard at least once:
“Don’t make me turn this truck around.”
The second I made that connection, I could never unhear it.
Now whenever the song comes on, I’m torn between vibing with the lyrics and laughing because it sounds like the soundtrack to a chaotic family drive to Lake George.

Camo Over Concerts: Finding Real Moments Between Shows
Davis was likely squeezing in the hunting trip between concert dates. He resumes touring later this month and has a packed schedule ahead, including a stop in Buffalo this summer with Luke Bryan for the Taste of Country concert.
But maybe that’s why this little hunting trip feels relatable. No stylists. No giant production. No backstage photos carefully set up for social media.
Just camo, muddy boots, early mornings, and a bunch of guys excited to be outdoors in Upstate New York. That’s probably the most country thing a country singer can do.
