All Star Home took a look at the data  from the American Housing Survey to find out which parts of the United States gives us the biggest bang for our housing buck. They looked at the average rating that residents gave to their homes and neighborhoods and compared it to the median home value.

The study results found that Rochester residents are not only the happiest with their homes but they got he best deals on them too. This combination of the two put Rochester as the #2 city for housing affordability and value.

Cities Where Americans Value Their Neighborhoods The Most

On a national scale, Detroit, Michigan claimed the #1 spot, while Birmingham, AL took the #3 ranking. These cities (along with Rochester) give the residents a high level of satisfaction with their homes at a price that is affordable.

Those are the top three cities but what cities give us the least bang for our buck? The bottom four cites are located out west -  San Francisco, CA, San Jose, CA, Seattle, WA, and Los Angeles CA. By the way, New York City was #5 on the list. They had to pay a premium for their housing happiness compared to other cities.

The study also looked at why Americans might not be happy with their neighborhoods. It seems that weird people, noise levels, homes being too close together, rude people, and noisy neighbors are some of the biggest factors that lead to their dissatisfaction.

Here is something that doesn't surprise me, the study found that political views are also an issue at the neighborhood level. Around 1 in 6 Americans reported disliking their neighborhood due to having different political views.

The Top 10 Dumbest Cities in New York State

According to Road Snacks, New York isn't just one of the dumbest states in the nation - they claim to have found the top 10 dumbest cities in the Empire State.

As for what determines a "dumb" city, Road Snacks compared 163 cities with 5,000 or more residents, to find those with the largest population of those who never finished high school. The survey used Census data and "scientific stuff" from other "legitimate" sources to find the 10 areas with the highest concentration of high school dropouts.

Road Snacks argues that not finishing high school puts one at a significant disadvantage in life. The study adds that the areas with the highest percentage of adults without a high school degree should shine a light on the state as a whole.

In the end, these 10 cities were deemed to be the dumbest in New York State.
That said, the company is not calling these cities "dumb" - so if you have an issue, take it up with Road Snacks. We're just reporting their findings.
