The Torch continues to be passed as a concert is set for Saturday in Norwich to help future musicians.  The brilliant idea of giving back to young musicians through a scholarship came after Ron Palmer passed away in 2019.  Ron developed a love for music at an early age when he started playing the piano but would later transition to guitar.  Ron's talents led him to be the first lead guitarist for Grammy Award Winning Artist Harry Chapin from 1971 to 1974.  Ron eventually made his way back to the area and was an inspiration his entire life.

For Ron and many other talented local musicians that are no longer with us, the Ron Palmer Memorial Scholarship Fund Annual Tribute and Reunion Fundraising Event was established in 2019. This weekend event featuring roughly 40 musicians will once again raise funds for the Ron Palmer Memorial Scholarship.   Students looking to excel in music just like Ron did can apply for this scholarship. They will be awarded to students graduating from Norwich City Schools and possibly other area schools planning to study music at the college level.

The 2021 event will take place at the Hidden Springs Brewhaus 170 County Road 31 in Norwich from Noon to 7:00pm this Saturday. Tickets before the event are 15 dollars each and day of, tickets are 20 dollars each.  Scoop up your tickets at Hidden Springs Brewhaus, The Blarney Stone Pub, Taylor’s Country House, Rita’s Tavern, the Norwich VFW and the Artist’s Palette.  I had the chance to talk to musician Bruce Beadle about this event and that interview will air on This Week in Central New York Saturday morning.
