After a mere three weeks in office, things are looking good on the favorability front for New York's new Governor Kathy Hochul who took office on August 24, after the resignation of Andrew Cuomo. According to a new Siena College poll conducted Sept. 7 through Sept. 12 which surveyed 700 registered state voters, Hochul received a favorability rating from 42% of residents with 17% rating her unfavorably. 41% of the respondents were undecided since Hochul hasn't been in office for more than a few weeks.

According to the poll, the majority polled feel that Hochul has a more collaborative approach than Cuomo did and even more people (75%) are happy that NY State has its first female governor.

Some other poll results show that a strong majority believes Hochul will be successful in controlling the spread of Covid-19, will lead NY through disasters, and ensure in-person education. About two-thirds of those polled support COVID vaccine mandates with even more people supporting mask mandates.

When voters were asked about former Governor Cuomo, it was a different story. 67% of those polled felt he should have resigned, although he did still receive a 50% favorability rating overall in his tenure as governor.

Before becoming New York's governor, albeit by default with Cuomo's resignation, Hochul served as the state's Lt. Governor for six years and was elected statewide twice in that position. With that in mind, 48 to 28% of those polled feel that Hochul has enough experience to lead New York State.
