One of the New York Mets pitching aces won't be playing this year no matter when the season begins.  Word released today from the New York Mets says that Noah Syndergaard needs to undergo ulnar collateral ligament reconstructive surgery better known around athletic circles as "Tommy John" surgery on his right elbow.  Mets Medical Director Dr. David Altchek will perform the surgery on Thursday, March 26 at the Hospital for Special Surgery.

Syndergaard "experienced discomfort in his elbow before Spring Training was suspended due to the pandemic and our health and performance department have been in constant contact." Following an MRI and a follow-up second opinion it was confirmed that the standout right-hander had a ligament tear and was recommended to have surgery.

The surgery will sideline Syndergaard for all of 2020 and at least into the Spring of 2021.  A former Binghamton Met Syndergaard pitched 197.2 innings in the 2019 season with 202 strikeouts and an ERA of 4.28.
