The ‘Soul’ Teaser Shows Pixar Is Back Taking Big Swings
If you’ve gotten tired of Pixar’s many sequels in recent years, and were hoping the studio might get around to making another big, ambitious movie, it looks like their summer 2020 project will be up your alley. It’s called Soul, and based on the first teaser, it appears to tackle nothing less than the meaning of life, and the origins of our individual identities.
It features Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey in the two lead roles, as a middle-school band teacher named Joe and the disembodied soul he encounters after he falls down a manhole and ... maybe dies? Like we said, a big swing!

From the press release, here’s the synopsis:
In the film, just when Joe thinks his dream might be in reach, a single unexpected step sends him to a fantastical place where he’s is forced to think again about what it truly means to have soul. That’s where he meets and ultimately teams up with 22, a soul who doesn’t think life on Earth is all it’s cracked up to be. Jamie Foxx lends his voice to Joe, while Tina Fey voices 22.
Soul was directed by Pete Docter, arguably the best of all the Pixar filmmakers — he directed Inside Out and Up — and now the guy in charge of the entire studio. Soul opens in theaters on June 19, 2020.
