Super Heroes in Ripped Jeans (SHIRJ), a grassroots non-profit organization run mostly by volunteers, concentrates on helping people keep their pets to prevent as many animals as possible from ending up in the shelter and needing new homes and yesterday, they held an open house and holiday bazaar event at their new shelter at 160 Pony Farm Road in Oneonta.

According to SHIRJ board member Lisa Meschutt, over 200 people come out to support the group's mission and to check out the yet-to-be-renovated new shelter.  Many brought donations of supplies for our animals which were greatly appreciated. The shelter's new Executive Director Jared Moore, a Morris, NY native, was on hand to introduce himself to the community. Moore comes to SHIRJ with over 10 years of experience in the non-profit sector with his last position as an Assistant Vice President in the human services field.
